Wooden Pipe

Part of the historic wooden water pipeline which once carried Orange’s water supply from the Spring Creek Filter, down Forrest Road and Peisley Street into the city. The pipe is made from Californian redwood, bound with wire and sealed with a tar-like substance. When wet the wood expanded keeping the wire taught. Wooden pipes were still in use in Orange in the early 70s. This piece was recovered in 1986 when new water mains were being installed.
