These are the simple tools used by thousands of miners on goldfields around Australia. Water is sluiced around the gold pan to wash out the dirt and hopefully reveal specks of alluvial gold. These tools contrast with the huge scale of modern mining operations at Cadia. The picks were used by Jack Trudgitt for prospecting in the Carcoar area in the 1920s and 30s.
